Elle écoute Pearl - Sounded Freshwater Pearl Pendant
Elle écoute Pearl is the first sounded pendant created for GEOWÈ’s ‘Interlude to Sensitivity’ collection. Formed around a singular vintage cultured freshwater baroque pearl and natural silk, each piece is selected, assembled and sounded by hand in the GEOWÈ atelier in Villach, Austria.
Once part of a vintage pearl mala, each pearl is released from its original sequence and considered individually — selected for the particularity of its form, lustre and surface. Its natural irregularities remain untouched: soft ridges, subtle variations and shifting tones of ivory, cream and nacre revealed as the pearl moves through light. No attempt is made to standardise these characteristics; they belong to the singular nature of the piece.
The pearl is suspended from a long, hand-finished natural silk cord, allowing it to fall simply against the body. The construction is deliberately reduced to pearl and silk, leaving the material itself — its weight, tactility and quiet luminosity — at the centre of the object.
Sound forms part of the making process at GEOWÈ. Before completion, each Listening Pearl passes through The Sounding — an atelier ritual in which the object is laid upon a singular archival silk reserved exclusively for this purpose and sounded with GEOWÈ crystal singing bowls.
Known within the atelier as The Sounding Silk, this nearly three-decades-old textile has been carefully preserved, retaining the softness, movement and subtle traces that come only with time. It serves as a ceremonial ground between making and completion — the final surface upon which each sounded object rests before leaving the atelier.
The Sounding becomes part of the object's provenance. Each Listening Pearl is accompanied by its numbered object card and a discreet QR code preserving an audible trace of this final atelier passage.
Made slowly and individually, no two Listening Pearls are intended to be identical. Each begins with the pearl itself, allowing its natural character to determine the finished piece.
A small companion to presence — and to the practice of peace.
